Modhera Surya Temple

The Sun Temple of Modhera is located 100 km from Ahmedabad and 25 km from Mehsana in Gujarat. The temple was built by King Bhimdev I of the Solanki dynasty in the 11th century to worship his deity Suryadev.

The specialty of this temple is that lime has not been used to connect this temple. Another characteristic of Amandir is that as soon as it dawns, the first rays of the sun fall on the gem on the crown of the Sun God in its sanctum sanctorum, which ignites the whole temple. This place is known as Dharmaranya in Satyug, Satyamandir in Tretayug, Vedbhuva in Dwaparyug, and Modhera in Kalayug. There were many attacks on this temple like Somnath temple but the attack done by Alauddin Khilji caused a lot of damage to the temple.

It is said in the Puranas that Lord Rama told his guru Vashishta after the slaying of Ravana about a place where he could go and attain self-realization and also get rid of the sin of Brahmahatya when Guru Vashishta advised him to come here The kund in front of is known as Ramkund and Suryakund.
