Somnath is such a Jyotirlinga that it is the first of the 12 Jyotirlingas. Due to the grandeur of this temple, it catches the eye of tourists first, and that is why this temple has been attacked about 17 times. But all the time it was rebuilt. Few people know that Somnath's full name is Somnath Jyotirlinga. This temple is near Veraval in Saurashtra, Gujarat. This temple is a holy place of pilgrimage for Hindus. The construction of this temple is said to have been made of gold when it was first built by Somdev. Then in the Dvaparayug era, when Shri Krishna went and settled in Gujarat, he built this temple with a stick. Then Maharaja Bhimdev built it with stones. There are many myths behind the Jyotirlinga of Somnath. This sacred Jyotirlinga was established where Lord Shiva appeared.
According to a story, Somdev i.e. Chandra Daksha married 27 daughters of Prajapati Raja. But out of all the brides he was in love only with Rohini. So the rest of the girl complained to her father, the father got angry and told Somdev that his day was getting worse day by day. Cursed. So the brightness of the moon began to decrease. So he started worshiping Lord Shiva so Shiva was pleased and removed the curse of the moon. In this way Shiva, who removed the curse of Somdev, was established. It is said that this temple was built before BC. The second temple was built in the 7th century by the Maitrak king of Vallabhi. The temple was then destroyed by Al Juner, the Arab governor of Sindh. In 1815, it was rebuilt for the third time by King Nagbhatt II and made of red stones. The Somnath temple was badly damaged by Muhammad Ghaznavi in 1024 AD and he took gold, silver, diamonds etc. from the temple. The temple was also rebuilt by Sardar Patel, the former Home Minister of India. The temple is located on a coast.
